The unfortunate passing of an America icon in the art world took place in the spring of 2008. Edward Betts has long been regarded as one of the great artists of his generation. His work has been collected by virtually every major museum in America, including the Metropolitan Museum in New York. A highly respected proffessor emirtus from the University of Illinois and a lifetime summer resident of Maine, Edward Betts' work has constantly garnered critical acclaim. He is the author of several books on techniques in watermedia. Throughout his life he painted in two seperate styles. His abstract work primarily being shown in New york through his long relationship with the Midtown Gallery and his traditional, yet equally complex compositions ,in watercolor exihibited primarily summers in Maine. A thoughtful and gregarious human being, Edward Betts was truly a gentleman who will be sorely missed.
